LCBI certified buildings

Launched in 2022, LCBI unites major European real-estate stakeholders to promote low carbon buildings in Europe and create the first pan-European low carbon label measuring the carbon footprint of real estate based on a Life-Cycle Analysis.

Discover LCBI Certified buildings across Europe

LCBI Certified buildings

Welcome to the LCBI Certified Buildings page, where we showcase exemplary projects that have achieved the Low Carbon Building Initiative (LCBI) certification. These buildings represent a commitment to achieving an exemplary low carbon footprint.

By adhering to rigorous Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) standards and achieving measurable performance across embodied carbon, operational carbon, and biogenic carbon storage, these projects set a benchmark for low-carbon construction and inspire the future of sustainable building practices in Europe.

Discover how LCBI-certified buildings are shaping a greener tomorrow, one project at a time.

Citywave, Generali Real Estate, Milan – LCBI Performance

CityWave is a unique development, designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) architecture studio. It features two blocks linked by a futuristic portico and creates a new green and protected public space. The iconic curved arch that links the two buildings is topped by over 10,000 solar panels, making it the largest solar farm in Milan. This system, with a 1.3 megawatt capacity, provides 65% of the project’s heating and cooling needs.

Roots, BPI Real Estate, Luxembourg – LCBI Excellence

Designed by ArtBuild Architects, Roots is a mixed-use ensemble of three buildings convering over 20,000 square metres. The design team has paid the greatest attention to the choice of materials, prioritising options with the lowest carbon content at all levels of the development, which means that the embodied carbon level is 755 kg/CO2e/sq.m., i.e. 25 % below the target threshold. Its superstructure is mainly composed of wooden elements, producing an exceptional result in terms of stored biogenic carbon (159 kgCO2e/sq.m.).

Black, AXA IM Alts, France – LCBI Standard

BLACK, the 47,000 m² eco-friendly urban campus developed by AXA IM Alts and REDMAN, has become the first building in France to receive the LCBI label. With a 50% reduction in its carbon footprint compared to a standard new building, it achieved this through innovative features such as wood-concrete slabs, avoiding 411 tons of CO?, a stabilized wood façade, and an ambitious materials reuse policy.

The Stack, AXA IM Alts, Germany- LCBI Excellence

AXA IM Alts launched the construction of ‘The Stack,’ a c. 17,100 sqm timber hybrid office asset in the centre of Munich. The scheme, aims to achieve market-leading environmental credentials, combining a sustainably sourced timber-hybrid construction method with green energy technology and biophilic design features. The Stack used 1,800 cubic meters of spruce wood from Austria, which amounted to 325.5 kgCO2e/m² embodied carbon.

Luxia, AXA IM Alts, Belgium – LCBI Performance

Luxia is a 13,000 sqm low-carbon office building in Brussels, developed by AXA IM Alts and designed by DDS+. Built on preserved foundations and reusing materials from the demolished structure, it reducing its construction footprint to 931 kgCO?e/m² (50 yr), while annual operational emissions are just 11.2 kgCO?e/m². Energy use has been cut to 48 kWh/m²/year through heat pumps, solar power and smart building systems.
